2011 YEAR END REVIEW
2011 is coming to an end and this is a time when we like to reflect on the successes and challenges that we have experienced during the year. We have exceeded our goals this year, in addition to new acquaintances, travels as well as the expected and the unexpected arrivals.
|
During the early part of the year we were saying goodbye to our "E" litter. Itfs a joyous occasion to see puppies leaving our home and joining a new family, where they will be spoiled rotten and loved by many. Being able to give a gift of unconditional love to another family is what keeps us striving to produce excellent family members and companions.
In 2010, Jowhar traveled to Wroclaw, Poland, where he attended ATIBOX, while Doris and Halimah stayed behind to tend to the dogs. This year Jowhar would stay at home while Doris and Halimah got away for a while and enjoyed their summer in Italy, attending ATIBOX 2011. The 2011 ATIBOX was held at Villa Santa Maria di Sala; a small town outside of Venice, Italy.

In order to fully enjoy the Venetian experience, Halimah and Doris enrolled in an Intensive Italian language school, the week prior to ATIBOX. Learning the basics would prove to be useful when navigating the labyrinth of streets, waterways and public transportation. Upon arrival, they managed to become lost in the maze of streets. After walking for several hours and eventually recruiting a helpful English speaking gentleman, they located their two-bedroom apartment which was only a 20 minute walk from the language school.
The weather in Venice was like being on a tropical island, cool mornings and evenings with ideal weather during the peak of the day. The residents were warm and friendly and the food was delicious. Motorized vehicles were not allowed in Venice so a good pair of shoes came in handy. When visiting Venice it requires much more than one week enjoy the Venetian highlights and culture.

Villa Santa Maria di Sala was a sprawling estate that gave the perfect setting for the ATIBOX event. The opening ceremony was complete with live musicians, dancers and performers. There were many exhibitors and dogs from many countries. It was a boxer lover's paradise, with friendly people and beautiful dogs.
While the ladies were enjoying the sun and fun in Italy, Jowhar (the mid-whelper) was preparing for a special arrival.
The "F" breeding was a highly anticipated combination that would incorporate the bloodlines of a number of foundation sires of the boxer breed along with the health and temperament that we desire. This would be the first litter out of Mirak and Ch. Queros dei Cavalieri Del Monferrato. Unfortunately our dream of a beautiful litter was replaced with the sadness of delivering one stillborn male puppy. The loss of a puppy is devastating, especially when it is from a single pup litter. This was the first time we have experienced a single pup litter in which the puppy died before birth. Although it was a sad event, we are thankful that Cavalia has recovered fully and the fact that we may have the opportunity to breed with Queros in the future.

When living with a home full of boxers, there is no time to sulk or have self pity. Each morning brings a list of chores and projects that need to be taken care of. 2011 has brought about many more tasks than the previous years. One of those new projects arrived in the fall; a classic fawn, American female pup named "Taila Mae". Taila is full of spirit and loves to please. She has shown great interest in obedience, bite work and we are happy to have her join our crew and look forward to working with her. Alongside Taila, we have Esme, who has begun working and performance training.

Cavalia, from our "C Litter" and Dominica, from our "D Litter" began their endurance training this past fall to prepare for the USA-BOXER National Sieger. This event took place in Tracy California, organized by the Boxers West club in partnership with USA-BOXER club from the east coast. The event was judged by Uwe Werner, a well known judge from Germany. We were excited to have Cavalia and Dominica compete for their AD (Ausdauer-Prufung) title; a title achieved by completing a 20km run alongside a bicycle. Both girls passed and have received their AD certificate. This was the first event of its kind that we have participated in. During the conformation judging, written critiques were given for each dog and read aloud for all spectators and exhibitors to hear. The judge was more than accommodating to answer specific questions about dogs and the breed in general.
Having attended boxer shows, seminars on dog training, better breeding practices and holistic health care we have collected a lot of information that we have incorporate into our breeding program. We have been blessed to have produced healthy happy boxers for our family and for others. One of the greatest revelations this year was learning more about the working aspect of the boxer breed. The boxer is a beautiful creature and its beauty must transcend the physical. It cannot solely have a beautiful head and expression, or smooth outline and movement. They must have a functional and pleasant physical appearance, spirit/character, stable/commanding temperament and health. |

|
It wasn'st until we learned more about what it takes to become a "working" boxer, that we realized that the pretty dog may not be the most suitable dog for working. To breed, care for and train a beautiful dog with the character and drive to work will be a goal that we will always work towards. We understand that in order to make improvements, we must learn from our past and build upon those improvements. This goal is not something that we can achieve alone. Cooperation, teamwork with other breeders and owners is what will be needed to accomplish such a goal. This year has brought us in contact with others who are interested in such a goal and we look forward to working with them in making this goal a reality.
2012 is here and we are excited by what the future has in store for us and our boxers. Our plans for the New Year include more working titles, puppies, photography and travel.
